Exam Summary:

These EKG Instructor's Exams were developed specifically for Educators Teaching Basic, 12-Lead, and Advanced EKG Concepts.  Stop wondering what you should be teaching and if you are qualified, we can offer you a Board Certification Status for Educators to prove you are qualified.  This will mean that you are aware of our standards for EKG Interpretation and that you are competent to teach these concepts to other cardiovascular Professionals.  It's high time validate your knowledge and be sure you are following a National standard of Education when teaching EKG Interpretation.   We should all be teaching the same content.  

Qualifications: 

1.  Basic EKG Instructor Exam:  No Degree, but proof of practice in teaching EKG Interpretation for 2 or more years.

2.  12-Lead EKG Instructor Exam:  No Degree, but proof of practice in teaching 12-Lead EKG Interpretation for 2 or more years.

3.  Advanced EKG Instructors Exam:  Should hold a Bachelor's Degree or Higher as this level of teaching covers:  Physicians, Medical Students, Nurses, and 12-Lead EKG Technicians.

Exam Preparation:

 The ABCM provides a list of items to study for the Basic, 12-Lead, and Advanced EKG Instructor's Board Certification Exams and makes reading recommendations of approved reference texts for each level. 

Exam Results:
After your EKG Instructor's Exam is completed, the ABCM will process your score and send results to you within three weeks, along with a list of those diagnoses you had trouble with in the exam.  This valuable feedback provides you with the information you need to further your study in electrocardiography.  A score of 85% must be achieved in order to be considered for Board Certification as a competent and informed EKG Instructor.

The EKG Instructor's Board Certification Exams are now available in your home city or town by proctor.  Travel has become cost prohibitive for many and time off is often difficult for many.  We are therefore making every effort to ensure this vital Instructor's Board Certification Exam is easily available. 

History and the Need:

Our Founders, Jonni Cooper and Henry J. L. Marriott with the assistance of a team of Cardiac Nursing Educators, developed standards of practice for Basic, 12-Lead, and Advanced EKG Instructors to follow when teaching students.   Prior to these developments, there were no national standards with which to measure the competency of an EKG Instructor and no way of assessing the knowledge of Instructors.   Instructors' have not been required to demonstrate accountability for their roles as EKG Instructors, and it is high time for change.   The EKG scores obtained in the CVRN Board Certification Exams we offer have clearly isolated a national need to improve our knowledge base of electrocardiography from basic to advanced concepts.  We have found that no two educators teaches the same material and no two cardiac professionals will interpret an EKG the same way.  This is very disturbing and it is our intent to help correct these issues by offering a National Board Certification Exam for EKG Educators.  Don't just say you can teach EKG concepts, prove that you have the knowledge to do so by becoming an EKG Board Certified Instructor.
